for general lay use
The people may stand or sit as they are able.
Isaiah 40:30—31 (NRSVue)
Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted,
but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.
God of mercy, this midday moment of rest is your welcome gift.
Bless the work we have begun,
make good its defects,
and let us finish it in a way that pleases you.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
The daily devotional from The Upper Room
Matthew 6:9b—13 (NET)
Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored,
may your kingdom come,
may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we ourselves
have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but
deliver us from the evil one.
Amen.
